Simply Marvelous
“That sun sure does feel nice and warm on my skin this morning.”
“Ohh, it is good to be able to laugh!”
“It was so encouraging and uplifting to me to be able to get a shower at Homeless Healthcare!”
Words from someone in their 70s who knows they’re close to dying and daily suffers the summer elements in their car in a parking lot. A perspective of not taking anything for granted. An inspiring ability to marvel at the simple things. While the simple things might be overlooked by many, that doesn’t negate their goodness. How much of the goodness that life has to offer is not obtained by us because of our unwillingness to stop, acknowledge, appreciate, and marvel at it.
For the past week since this client spoke these stunning statements, we ROC Stars have been making more of a conscious decision to simply marvel at the goodness in the midst of the overwhelmingly obvious badness.
Some examples of goodness have been:
A new car for a couple of clients whose car was totaled.
Actually working air conditioning in their new car.
The joy of being able to share with clients sausage and cheese biscuits from First Christian’s Biscuit Brigade, popsicles and ice sandwiches from Publix, ice-cold Mountain Dews from the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, hygiene kits from Chattanooga Room In The Inn, and reusable water bottles from PATH Water.
A smile on the face of a client who is usually grumpy.
The improved health of 13 dogs due to the care provided by Compassion Copper Canyon.
Good, reliable transportation was given through the repairing of 11 bikes and the giving of 5 more bikes by White Oak Bicycle Co-op.
Life-saving Narcan was given to us by Cempa and the Hamilton County Coalition.
The temperature is dropping by 20 degrees, which allows for everyone to be in a better mood.
An unexpected vine of beautiful flowers on display in the middle of an encampment.
The numerous colorful monarch butterflies fluttering around as they migrate to Mexico.
A once-occupied parking spot is now vacant, as its former occupant and their vehicle have migrated to Welcome of Chattanooga. Where they are sure to experience much more warmth from the sun and the people there. Where they will have many more moments of enriching laughter. Where they will get showered and refreshed with not only water, but also the outpouring of love and care that gushes from this divine place. Where they will be sure to live the rest of their life with dignity, therefore avoiding the disaster of dying in their car.
Goodness, That Is Simply Marvelous!!
